Jordan Peterson
If you can’t tell from my last blog post, I really like CliftonStrengths. My top strength is Significance. That means I am hardwired with an innate desire to influence people. And that is part of the point of this blog. I want to influence people to live and I want to resource (anyone who will listen) people with tools to help them do just that.
So today I wanted to resource you, my dear reader, with some video’s I’ve listened to countless times. As I described on the home page, I went through a very dark time. It was so dark that death seemed like the only option. Before that time I came across Jordan Peterson. Dr. Peterson is quite the controversial figure and at the same time there is wisdom to be found in his work if you are humble enough to find it.
Peterson’s philosophy is laid out in his book 12 Rules for Life. Many of the principals and tools he laid forth help me climb out of the shadow and into the light. I eventually walked through Self-Authoring, a website that helps you know your past, articulate your future, identify your virtues and even your weakness. The brilliant part of it is that Self-Authoring causes you to think about how to overcome those weakness when they come rising out of the depths of your being. For a quick hit on Self-Authoring check out the video with Dr. Peterson and Joe Rogan here.
Now, by God’s good grace, you may never have been in such a dark spot as I found myself. Yet from time to time, we all need a spark, we need some emotional energy to help us through the mundane and discover a greater since of purpose and meaning. And here is where I want to both influence and resource you. So take a moment, give these videos a listen, or save them for later when you are looking for a bit of motivation. Who knows, maybe you will catch an idea that will give you the courage to move towards greater life.
Take Aim, Even if Badly
I’ve listened to this a hundred times - specifically when I was in the grips of my own shadow. It help me realized I had a choice about moving forward with my life after it came crashing down.
Let Your Insufficiencies Burn
Another piece of gold. Believe it or not there are things about you that are actually stupid. We might think highly of them, but in reality, they hurt us and those around us.
Your Shadow
This concept comes from Carl Yung, a Swiss psychoanalyst. It is the idea that part of your personality is not good. Your shadow must be faced or it will build hell on earth for you and those you love most.
Thanks for checking it out. Remember, my dear reader, I want you to bloody live. My hope is that there is something to you, a deep substance that affects those around you for good. So I hope these videos help. And if there is anything I can do to serve you, give me a shout.
